Changing Lives. Growing Careers. Building Wealth.

Our mission is simple. We empower youth and families by providing education, workforce development, and supportive services that foster resilience, break cycles of violence, and build pathways to long-term stability and success.

The Barbara Jean Foundation/Urban Wellness Initiative helps participants grow into their true potential by activating the gifts that lie within…

We believe everyone has a calling and a purpose. In order for you to walk into your calling, sometimes you need help and a caring hand. Our team is here to support residents affected by gun and domestic violence, homelessness, and unemployment.

We offer free, personalized, confidential, and evidence-based services to support your mental health, nutritional needs, education, and self-esteem. Our goal is to engage the community, and to deliver real, tangible results. We are also the proud winners of Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Reimagine Public Safety Act, and One Summer Chicago, Chicagobility grants.

About Us…

The Barbara Jean Foundation (BJF) was created to honor the life and legacy of Ms. Barbara Jean, affectionately known as “B Jay,” of Chicago.

Barbara Jean was more than a beloved mother and friend—she was a compassionate, selfless giver whose kindness and generosity impacted everyone she encountered. Her unwavering commitment to helping others inspired her daughter, Narcrissa Berry, to establish this foundation as a living tribute to her spirit of service.

Through BJF, we continue her legacy by uplifting communities and creating opportunities for those in need. From youth development programs that equip young people with career and leadership skills to domestic violence support services that empower women to gain safety, independence, and self-sufficiency, we remain dedicated to carrying forward Barbara Jean’s vision of hope, healing, and opportunity for all.
